Pregnant woman forced to pay money in Primary health centre

The staff of a Community Health Centre of Takhatpur village in Madhya Pradesh, have demanded cash from a pregnant woman before providing her with services. The driver charged Rs. 100 to get her to the hospital and the Auxillary Nurse Midwife (ANM) charged her Rs. 300 for delivering the baby before helping the labouring mother.

As per provisions of the Janani Suraksha Yojna, pregnant women are entitled to get free services like medicines, ambulance rides and free vaccination for their newborns. Janani Suraksha Yojana (JSY) is a safe motherhood intervention under the National Rural Health Mission (NHM). It is being implemented with the objective of reducing maternal and neonatal mortality by promoting institutional delivery among poor pregnant women.

Community Correspondent Ramlal Biga tried talking to the employees who had demanded bribe, but they refused to give him an interview. Ramlal hopes that this video moves authorities to take action against the corrupt employees.
